Of the Land Amidst Monoliths Walkthrough

This is the fourth main quest you will unlock in Genshin Impact, but you will have to finish the previous quest Song of the Dragon and Freedom, as well as reach AR 23 before you can proceed with this quest. you should consider doing Daily Commissions or World Quest to quickly increase your AR.

• Description: After listening to what the Moon Carver told you, you then arrive at Mt. Aocang to seek out Cloud Retainer.

Dust to Dust

• Description: After reaching out to all the adepti and completing Moon Carver's task, you must return to Liyue Harbor and look for Childe. He has something important to discuss with you.

Rite of Descension

To start this quest, you would first need to reach Liyue Harbor. Once you reach the harbor, a dialogue will trigger. Paimon will tell you that this is the only chance you'll get all year to find the Geo Archon. Paimon suggests that we should start by asking the locals on the Geo Archon's wherabouts. After the short dialogue, the game will prompt that you've officially started the quest Of the Land Amidst Monoliths.

After the prompt, you will have to talk to three locals around the area. You will see a yellow icon indicating the locations of the locals you talk to. Start talking to the locals, namely Bolai, Guanhai, and Linlang. After talking to three of the locals, you will now head over to Yujing Terrace.

Once you've reached Yujing Terrace, you will now pray twice. You will see two worshipping statues on both sides of the terrace. Approach and interact to pray and make a wish. After praying and making a wish, you can now join the crowd and wait for the rite of descension to begin.

As you join the crowd, Paimon suggests that you go infront since you can't see much from behind. As you make your way to the front, Ningguang will start with the Rite of Descension to summon the Geo Archon. But as Ningguang was just about done with the ritual, the Geo Archon, Rex Lapis comes crashing down the statue. She then says that Rex Lapis has been killed, she instructs the guards to seal the exits. Paimon is freaking out because you just witnessed the Geo Archon get killed, and you two are possible suspects.

Now you should try to escape Millelith. For this part, you will need to reach the yellow icon presented on the screen. This is just like from the previous mission before at the basement where you try to steal the Holy Lyre, you will need to avoid the guards to escape the area. This will be a lot easier since it isn't in an enclosed space. You can start climbing up a house and just start jumping or gliding across rooftops.

Once you've reached the yellow icon, a cutscene will occur. As you try to make your escape, one of the guards spotted you. The guards started chasing you to a corner. A mysterious traveler swoops in and takes down all the guards. He then tells you to follow him. After the cutscene, a dialogue will occur. The mysterious traveler introduces himself as Childe, a Fatui envoy from Snezhnaya. But he is not here to give you any trouble, in fact, he wants to help. After hearing the good deeds you've done in Mondstadt, he couldn't help but notice you at the proceedings earlier. He was keeping an eye on you during the ceremony so he's sure someone else is behind what happened. He then tells you that if you want to clear yourselves from any suspicion, you would need to go to Northland Bank.

You will now need to reach Northland Bank and meet up with Childe there. After the dialogue, just face left, and go straight. The Northland Bank is just across the street. You should be able to see a red stairs beside Xingxi (Owner, Mingxing Jewelry).

Go up the stairs, head straight and then turn right until you see another flight of stairs and go up there as well. You'll eventually see Childe waiting at the Northland Bank. Press interact to start talking to him. Childe will then give you a brief history about the Northland Bank, as well as give you more information on what might have happened earlier. He will also be giving you a Sigil of Permission.

After the dialogue, your next objective An Impromptu Change of Plan will begin shortly after.

An Impromptu Change of Plan

For this next objective, you will have to first go meet the adepti in Jueyun Karst. You can open your map and fast travel to a waypoint near the yellow icon shown on your map. Once you reach the area, a mysterious creature starts talking to you. You then show your item Sigil of Permission, the creature then Introduces itself as Moon Carver, the mighty and illuminated adeptus. He then asks what are you doing in Jueyun Karst. Just when you're about to say something, two of the Millelith guards have found you.

Your conversation with Moon Carver will be put on hold, for now you must defeat the pursuing Millelith Soldiers. Once you've defeated 20 Millelith Guards, you can continue your conversation with Moon Carver, he will then ask to state your purpose. After explaining the events of what happened during the Rite of Descension, Moon Carver tells you to go to Wangshu Inn and look for a Guardian Yaksha, Conqueror of Demons.

The next three objectives namely Wangshu, Moulder of Mountains, and Custodian of Clouds can be completed in any order. After completing these three, you can then begin with the last objective Dust to Dust.

Wangshu

To start this objective, you will first need to go to Wangshu Inn. you can open your map and select the teleport waypoint inside the Wangshu Inn to fast travel. Once you've reached Wangshu Inn, you will need to seek out someone called Mountain Shaper. Go inside and go upstairs by the balcony. You will meet Xiao here, but showing him the Sigil of permission doesn't really help much, as all he says is it prevents him from hurting you himself, then asks you to leave. After you short conversation with Xiao, you should now ask the Boss Lady at the Inn about Xiao and how she manages to talk to an adepti.

Head downstairs, you will see a sort of reception area, you will see a lady with a yellow icon above her head, approach her. When you press interact, you should then choose the dialogue that says "Tell me about that adeptus" to continue the objective. Verr Goldet (Boss at Wangshu Inn) will then tell you more about Xiao. She also says that you should go see the chef for a bowl of Almond Tofu, and prepare whatever dish you are best at making. Almond Tofu is one of the few human foods that Xiao likes.

Now turn left, and head downstairs, you should be able to see a cooking area. This is where you will cook your dish Satisfying Salad. After cooking the dish, head upstairs to and go back to Verr Goldet is, and then go outside and follow the yellow icon, you should be able to see the chef by the balcony, talk to him.

The chef tells you that he can't cook the Almond Tofu because you would need a steady hand to prepare this dish. He's been trembling because a traveler told him that this Inn is haunted. He also just saw something in the kitchen just now. Paimon suggests that we should take a look at the kitchen.

Go back inside the Inn and head to the kitchen down the stairs. A cutscene should occur. Just when Paimon was just about to say nothing seems to be wrong, you then spot what seems to be a ghost of a little girl running around the kitchen.

Go back outside the balcony to tell the chef what happened. After telling the chef what happened, he's to scared to now, Paimon says that we should just ask for help from the Verr Goldet. Go back inside and talk to her. She then tells you that you should see to it that the little ghost doesn't scare other people away. To persuade the ghost, you should be look for a caligraphy painting within the Inn known as the Witness Sigil.

Now head upstairs and turn left, you should be able to see a table and a painting in the corner. Go towards the painting to view the Witness Sigil.

Once you've seen the painting, look for a place outside where you can see the exact same Witness Sigil formation. Go outside the Inn and go inside the quest area, you will see to rocks with the Witness Sigil formation, you should then align these two. After aligning the Witness Sigil formation on the rocks, the little ghost should spawn, it'll start running, you will need to chase her.

Once you've chased her down, she will stop beside a tree, and then possess a Ruin Hunter. You will have to defeat this enemy to move on. After defeating the Ruin Hunter, the little ghost will tell you that she'll stop teasing travelers at the Inn anymore. You should now head back at the Inn and tell the chef about what happened. You can simply fast travel back at the Inn if you'd like.

You'll find the chef at the same place as before, by the balcony. After telling him how you made the little ghost to promise to stop haunting at the Inn, he is impressed, and says that he is in your debt. He also tells you to wait as he prepares your Almond Tofu.

After receiving the Almond Tofu prepared by the chef, you must find Xiao and talk to him. Head upstairs, you will also find him by the balcony, the same place he was before. You then give Xiao his favorite dish Almond Tofu, and also give your best dish, Satisfying Salad. You then proceed to tell him about the events that happened during the Rite of Descension.

After your conversation with Xiao, this objective is completed.

Moulder of Mountains

To start this objective, you will have to go to Mt. Hulao. Open your map and select a teleport waypoint near the objective to fast travel. Once you arrive, you will see a man praying by the mountain, talk to him. He then tells you that his brother, Li Dang was suddenly swallowed up by an amber.

You will then try to rescue his brother Li Dang. You must shatter the amber on the mountain road to save his trapped brother. Continue heading down the mountain road and keep shattering ambers, you will eventually find Li Dang in one of them. Once you find Li Dang, talk to him. He then thanks you for rescuing him. Now go back up at the mountain and talk to both Li Ding and Li Dang. They will both thank you and be on their way.

Once they leave, the Mountain Shaper will finally reveal itself. Go towards him and talk to him. You then show him your Sigil of Permission, and asks for you to explain what brings you here. You then explain what happened during the Rite of Descension at the Liyue Harbor.

After your conversation with the Mountain Shaper, this objective is completed.

Custodian of Clouds

To start this objective, you will need to go to Mt. Aocang. Open your map and select a teleport waypoint near the objective to fast travel. Once you reach Mt. Aozang, follow the yellow icon and you'll see the quest area where you can start looking for the Cloud Retainer. You will see a table placed in the middle of the land, and is also set for dinner. Paimon then suggests that we cook something for the adepti.

You will now have to search the area and look for traces of food offerings for the adepti. Three yellow icons will appear on your screen as well as your map, you can start searching for food offerings there. When you reach one of the areas, you'll see a cooking spot, use one of your character's Pyro ability to light up the cooking spot and then press interact. A short dialogue will occur, then you'll be given a recipe for each cooking area you visit. Don't forget to search around the cooking area for some of the ingredients needed for each recipe.

Once you've collected the recipes for food offerings on the three areas, you will now cook these foods and offer it up to Cloud Retainer.

After preparing the Cloud Retainer's dishes, a temple will be unlocked. The game will show that a sealed area will be unlocked. Go towards the temple and enter it. Once you interact, you will see the mission Cloud Retainer's Abode. It will show you the recommended party level as well as the recommended elements for this run. You will also be able to switch up your party members before entering the temple.

When you enter the temple, cross the bridge, you will see a Pyro Monument. Use Amber's ability to trigger a challenge. Once you lit the monument, the challenge begins. You will have to defeat 10 elemental slimes under 2 minutes. The enemies consists of one Large Cryo Slime, two Cryo Slimes, and two Electro Slimes. Defeating these enemies will spawn three more Electro Slimes and one Mutant Electro Slime. And then the last enemy, another Large Electro Slime, will spawn once the three other Electro Slimes have been defeated.

After completing the challenge, a console will be unlocked, head towards the console and activate it to form a bridge for you to cross on the other side.

Continue following the path on the bridge, once you reach the other area, you will see another console locked, and a bunch of Hilichurls waiting in the area. Defeat these enemies to unlock the console.

Once you unlocked the console, activate it to form another bridge. Once it is activate, Rotate the bridge 90 degrees clockwise, and continue following the path.

Once you've crossed the bridge you will see five locked Pyro Monuments and three locked treasures. You will also see a console besides the locked treasures, go towards it and activate it. A challenge will then start, it'll show the order of which monument you will shoot in order and then you will have to activate the three elemental monuments in order within 45 seconds. Completing the first challenge will unlock the first chest on the left. You will have to activate the console two more times to unlock the rest of the chests. Activating the console for the second time will start a similar challenge, but this time, you will have to activate the four elemental monuments in order within 60 seconds. Completing this challenge will unlock the second chest in the middle. Now you will have to activate the console for the third and last time, this time you have to activate all the five elemental monuments in order within 75 seconds. Completing this challenge will unlock the third and final chest, as well as activate a Wind Current on the other platform.

Now go back to the previous console you used to rotate the bridge earlier, this time you rotate the bridge 90 degrees counterclockwise.

Now continue following the path on the bridge until you reach the Wind Current, use the Wind Current to reach the next platform at the top.

Once you land on the platform, you will see another console, activate it and rotate the bridge, either clockwise or counterclockwise is fine.

Cross the bridge and follow the path until you see several Pyro Monuments. Shooting one of these monuments will unlock another console, as well as unlock a chest.

Now go towards the console and rotate the bridge, it doesn't matter if it's clockwise or counterclockwise. Cross the bridge and head straight towards the objective. The Cloud Retainer will then reveal itself, impressed with how you've managed to complete the challenges. The Cloud Retainer tells you that they created the place themselves. You then show your Sigil of Permission and explain what happened during the Rite of Descension in Liyue Harbor.

After your conversation with the Cloud Retainer, this objective is completed.

Once you've completed Wangshu, Moulder of Mountains, and Custodian of Clouds, you can then proceed with the next objective Dust to Dust.

Dust to Dust

After completing the Moon Carver's task and seeking out all the adepti, you should now head back to Liyue Harbor and speak to Childe. Open your map and select the nearest teleport waypoint you've unlocked near Liyue Harbor to fast travel. Once you reach Liyue Harbor, just follow the yellow icon leading to Childe, he should still be at the Northland Bank, where you met up with him earlier before you started looking for Moon Carver.

You then tell him about the events that happened after visiting all the adepti. In exchange, he will give you valuable information as well. He says that it's been announced that as the true killer has not been found yet, they are not allowing anyone to pay their respects to the Exuvia. The Geo Atchon is also the God of Contracts, and is also know as the Exuvia, Prime of the Adepti.

After your conversation with Childe, the game will prompt that you've officially completed the quest Of the Land Amidst Monoliths.

The next main quest after this is called Farewell, Archaic Lord, but you will need to reach AR 25 first before you can proceed with this next main quest.
