Materials in Genshin Impact is an item category. There are various materials that can be collected and found throughout the game and players can obtain these by looting, through game progression, and acquired as rewards for completing Quests and Events. Character Ascension Materials
Character Ascension Material are materials that can be used for ascending Characters once they have reached their current maximum level. Most of these materials are grouped by their element. All characters will require character ascension materials of the same element they use. The only exception is the Traveler, which uses an exclusive set of materials.
Higher rarity materials can also be crafted with Alchemy by combining lower rarity materials of the same element.

Talent Level-Up Materials are materials that are used along with Common Ascension Material to level up a Character's talents. Higher rarity materials can also be crafted with Alchemy by combining lower rarity materials of the same type. (i.e. 3 Teachings of "Freedom" can be combined to create 1 Guide to "Freedom").
